Who we are

Michael McLaughlin

Michael is a Singapore Registered Patent Agent, qualified by professional examination to act for clients before the Patents Registry of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore for both national and international patent applications.

Michael is originally from the UK and is also a Chartered Patent Attorney (CPA) and a (qualified) European Patent Attorney (EPA).

Michael has memberships with the following professional associations:

· Member of the Association of Singapore Patent Agents

· Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (UK)

· Member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association

· Member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property

· Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (formerly the Institution of Electrical Engineers)

 

After graduating from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (UK) with an honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Michael commenced his professional career as an Electrical Design Engineer. As an engineer, Michael worked in the construction industry for almost a decade, specialising in the design of electrical and electronic systems of petrochemical and pharmaceutical plants.

In 2000, Michael turned to patent law and became a trainee patent attorney in London, widely considered as a world centre of excellence in the patent attorney profession. In 2005 he qualified as a CPA and EPA while with a leading London firm, consistently ranked in the top-tier of patent and trademark attorneys by, amongst others, the Legal 500 and Managing Intellectual Property.

Michael moved to Singapore in late-2005 for a lifestyle change, and enjoys living here very much indeed.
